Aluminium acetate

Aluminium acetate is used as a mordant for plant-based fabrics like linen and cotton. Using aluminium acetate as a mordant creates richer, bright colours on these cellulose fabrics.  It’s an alternative to tannin mordants.  Although it’s more expensive than Alum the results are worth it.

Mordanting helps improve light and colour fastness.  It bonds the fabric with the dye molecule to help prevent natural dye colours fading and washing out.

Mordanting instructions

Use at 5 to 8% weight of fabric.
