Aluminium Acetate – mordant for plant fibres

Aluminium Acetate is used as a mordant when dyeing cellulose fibres such as cotton and linen. It helps natural dyes bond to the fibre, giving clearer, brighter and more even colour.

It is commonly used in place of alum for plant fibres, particularly where a cleaner, crisper result is preferred. Unlike tannin-based systems, it can be used as a single-step mordant.

Aluminium Acetate is widely used in immersion dyeing, printing and shibori techniques.

Suitable for

Cotton, linen and other cellulose fibres

Why use it

  • Improves dye uptake on cellulose fibres
  • Produces clearer, brighter colours
  • More direct process than tannin + alum
